History of Mediumship, and The Sorcerer

The history of mediumship can be traced all the way back to prehistoric times. They called it the Sorcerer. It is a mysterious cave painting found in the Sanctuary of one of the most famous and oldest caves filled with prehistoric paintings, at the Cave of the Trois-Frères, Ariège, France, made around 13,000 BCE.

Now the Sorcerer is a figure of a human like animal with antlers, standing on two legs. It's easy to determine that the figure represents a person wearing antlers and furs, a costume of a sort, as its standing legs are longer than its front legs, which makes it look like a person pretending to be an animal.

But the significance of this painting is unknown.

It looks like a spirit, or master of animals. And this really looks like some kind of ceremonial representation too.

If that is the case, then the person, maybe a shaman, dressed like an animal, which is common in stone age practice, was probably going into a trance through dance, to connect to the spirit of the animal they were going to hunt. This is, in essence, a form of mediumship, which would probably make mediumship one of the oldest professions on Earth, right?

The Sorcerer might well show a shaman or magician.

It might also be a god?

One or the other, this cave painting would be the first of its kind in history.

A shaman communicates with both good and bad spirits. They often attain this spiritual link to the spirit world through trance.

And through this ritual they do divination and healing.

In Shamanism the definition of a Shaman is blurred.

It ranges anywhere from tribal Siberian religion, mediums, to witch doctors, spiritual healers, or even prophets. The thing that connects a Shaman to a medium is attaining an altered consciousness.

So anybody who contacts the spirit world, while in an altered state of consciousness, can be called a shaman, but so too a medium, this includes Channellers, Reiki Healers, Energy healers, etc.

History of Mediumship

Attempts to communicate with the dead go back a long way. There are examples in the Old Testament. One is in the story of the Witch of Endor, Witch meaning Medium in this case. It tells of one who raised the spirit of the dead prophet Samuel, to allow the Hebrew king Saul to question his former mentor about an upcoming battle.

In the nineteenth century mediumship became popular, after the rise of Spiritualism as a religious movement.

Modern Spiritualism is said to date from practices and lectures of the Fox sisters in New York State in 1848.

The term Spiritism was coined around 1860.

The trance mediums Paschal Beverly Randolph and Emma Hardinge Britten were among the most celebrated lecturers and authors on the subject in the mid-19th century.

But Mediumship back then was more an entertainment for upper class people. And there were many charlatans using stage magic and tricks to make people believe that the fake medium was communicating with the spirit world as Physical Mediumship.

Now I don't know what is true, all I know is that when my wife channels the spirit world, the messages and information she relays to me is authentic.

Why?

Because the messages are so specific, and come from my past that she knows nothing about.

It would be impossible for her to know this history, simply because I too had completely forgotten about it myself, until I remembered it.

And then, as if a light went on, I knew the message was coming from my uncle, who had passed away when I was still a child.

But historically there were indeed, fake mediums who would use tricks to fool clients and take their money. Today it is easy to research private details, because of how the internet turns all of us into open books.

These kinds of mediums give authentic mediums a bad name.

For me, Mediumship is very real

Historically, Mediumship can also be part of some religious-belief systems, such as Shamanism, Spiritualism, Voodoo, Spiritism, and some New Age groups.

Some mediumship techniques to communicate messages from the spirit world, are through the spirit taking control of a medium's voice, and talking directly to the one seeking a message.

Some mediums might hear the message, and then they pass it on. But for most, the message comes through thoughts, colors, sounds, inner pictures, and sensory impressions.

Other communication comes in forms of physical stuff, like the spirit appearing, or the presence of a voice, and telekinetic activity, lights, things moving around the room.

The latter is where the historical parlor tricks might have been used.

So for me, the most authentic kind of communication is the kind that comes through personal messages that I could only know about, and can't be otherwise researched.

Physical Mediumship

Since we are on this topic, what is Physical mediumship? A Physical medium will connect to the spirits in a physical way. They are able to control the energy of the spirit, and have it manifests in some form in the room.

This involves perceptible manifestations. In this way the spirits may appear in a physical form, or though voice alone. Or the spirits may make noises, move objects around the room, have objects appear in the room, or make parts of their bodies appear in the space, like hands, legs and feet.

The medium is used as a source of power for such spirit manifestations. By some accounts, this was achieved by using the energy or ectoplasm released by a medium.

Since this often happened in the dark, back in the day, or very dimly lit rooms, there is of course the possibility of fraud

But not in every case. There have been some remarkable and legitimate controlled experiments where the scientist made sure there could not be any trickery, that produced authentic spirit activity through a Physical Mediumship session.

Thus, some scientists of the period who investigated Spiritualism also became converts, because they found no wrong doing.

Most physical mediums make use of a traditional array of tools and appurtenances, including spirit trumpets, spirit cabinets, and levitation tables.

So by the late 1920s and early 1930s there was a lot of Spiritualists and societies. A quarter million practicing Spiritualists, and over two thousand Spiritualist societies in the UK alone to be exact.

To this day Spiritualism is still practiced, through different Spiritualist churches in the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom.

In the UK alone, over 340 Spiritualist churches and centers open their doors to the public. There you can witness free demonstrations of mediumship, which are preformed regularly.

Today authentic, evidence based mediumship can be supported through intuition training. And mediumship is flourishing again, no more tricks, through learning to trust the information the medium receives.

Shows like the Long Island Medium have made mediumship popular again, and have given it more credibility; probably because she does readings in real time, in daylight, and is able to use her intuition to delivery very un-researchable information, from spirit to her clients, right on camera.

There are several kinds of mediumship

There is trance mediumship, physical mediumship, and psychic mediumship. There are different types of mediumship or spirit channeling, including seánce tables, trance, and ouija.

Psychic or Mental Mediumship (Includes Trance Mediumship Channeling)

Today there is a couple of different ways to be a medium in the West, which came about in the later half of the 20th century. One is to become a sensitive to spirit, to listen to spirit, and communicate the message received to clients.

The other is to channel the spirit, which is none physical, where the channeller leaves their body through trance. Through doing this the medium allows a spirit entity to use their body, so the spirit can speak through them.

The medium is than under the control of the spirit, and may become cataleptic, or their eyes may be open when channeling, and remain able to walk and behave normally.

The channellers voice might change too, in rhythm and intonation, to sound different, like a child, or a deep male voice, or a women's.

J. Z. Knight is one such channeller. She says she is channeling the spirit of Ramtha, a 30 thousand-year-old man.

Some trance mediums say they channel God, like the Brahma Kumaris. Others say they communicate with spirits connected to future dimensions, or ascended masters,

Trance Mediumship

Although Trance Mediumship is often criticized as being biased, as the Medium is aware of the communication the spirit is delivering through them, I think most trance mediums are legit.

A good Trance medium will let go of their ego.

This is important, because the message from the other side needs to get through in a pure form, not influenced by the Trance Mediums own bias in any way. This kind of Mediumship is what some refer to as mental mediumship. The spirit uses the mediums mind delivering messages through the consciously aware medium.

So the Trance Medium needs to know how not to influence the message coming through, to be just a messenger, an observer absent of ego.

Trance is a behavior of intense focus

Physically the one in trance is tuning into neural networks in the brain. Spiritually they are letting go, to act as an interpreter for the spirit world.

If the medium goes into a deep trance, they usually have an assistant to write down those parts of the messages, which the medium can not clearly recall. A deep trance is an altered state through which messages from the spirit world are clear and pure, but may have taken the medium so far into trance that it is hard to remember.

The assistant will write down word for word, the messages the medium conveys.

A trance medium may also be an interpreter for the spirit world, but the meaning of the messages received are up to the receiver to properly interpret.

Often the Trance Medium has no idea what the message means. It can come in many forms, from words, colors, specific items, or melodies, anything that might be meaningful to the one who is looking to make a connection to their loved ones on the other side.

Direct voice

It is the job of the medium to be a bridge between both the physical and spiritual world. So there is direct voice, speaking through the medium, as an individual spirit. The medium becomes the vessel, so to speak, of the spirit who uses his or her body to become present in room.

Trumpets are used too. A trumpet will amplify the signal. A direct voice medium will often be called a trumpet medium.

Trance Healing

Trance Healing is a very powerful method of spiritual healing, because the healing energy comes directly from Spirit.

Trance Healing is a form of Mediumship, and Mediumship is the ability to connect to the spirit world, like Spirit Guides, Helpers, Ascended Masters and Angels.

A Medium is the “Middleman” between a person and the spirit world.

In Trance Healing, the Medium is basically just a channel for the Healing energy that comes from spirit guides, helpers, angels, and Ascended Masters.

How does it work?

Before a Trance Healing session, the Medium goes into a deep meditation to reach a state of trance, and to link with their Spirit Friends, like spirit Guides and helpers.

In this process the energy fields of the Medium and their Spirit Friends will blend, and become as one. The healing energy is transferred from spirit through the aura of the medium to the client.

How can Trance Healing help?

A Trance Healing session can be supportive in times when we are out of balance, for example high stress or emotional problems.

Trance Healing works on the emotional, mental and spiritual level more than on physical problems, but still includes this level as well if a physical problem is attached to emotional, mental or spiritual problems. This is actually often the case.

Who can benefit from it?

Trance Healing is perfect for spiritual Self Healing, but you can help your friends, or clients as well.

I will guide you in this course step by step through powerful meditations, to become a Medium for Healing Energy.

Psychic senses

Not all Psychics are Mediums. A not all Mediums are psychic, but they may have psychic abilities.

Here are some terms that may relate to the kinds of abilities the medium either was born with, or has trained to master. The good news is that anyone can train their mediumship skills and psychic abilities. Most of us need to train their psychic senses Danila's course Boost Your Intuition gives you all the tool you will need to do so. Start by taking this online course now!

  • Clairvoyance also known as "clear seeing". Often mediums consider this to be their normal state of vision. Clairvoyance allows the medium to see things that aren't physically there.
  • Clairaudience or "clear hearing", is usually defined as the ability to hear the voices or thoughts of spirits. Some mediums can hear the spirits talking in their minds through thoughts.
  • Clairsentience or "clear sensing", is when the medium sense the spirit as in feelings. Through sensations the spirit will communicate however it feels necessary. This also means "clear feeling" is when the medium can feel the pain illness, or condition of the spirit to communicate a message. If the spirit died from a certain ailment the medium can feel this, and relate it.
  • Clairalience or "clear smelling" is the ability to smell a spirit. For example, a medium may smell the pipe tobacco of a person who smoked during life.
  • Clairgustance or "clear tasting" is the ability to receive taste impressions from a spirit.
  • Claircognizance or "clear knowing", this is when the medium just knows if a situation is right or wrong.

Conclusion

As we can see, history has given us many types of Mediumship. The history of mediumship is rich in mystery, and like in prehistoric times, even to this day, may be linked with Sorcery.

But the truth is that we all have the power to become a medium to channel the spirit world, and to learn and trust our own psychic powers and powers of intuition.

Learning to become a Trance Healer is a great first step to become a psychic medium. It will open up to who you really are, and your full potential. It is to learn to help not just yourself but others too, and become more empathetic.

Becoming a Trance Healer is to have a great connection to your spirit side, and still be rooted in the physical world

Bridging this gap can bring inner peace and healing. For some it's a spiritual journey into untouched and undiscovered landscapes of your mind, body and soul.

The greatest journeys always begin with the first step. Are you ready to take your first step in becoming a medium, then Trance Healing is the perfect start. Find out more about Daniela's Trance Healing course, CLICK HERE
